Mobile Racking

Mobile racking maximises storage capacity by eliminating fixed aisles and opening access only where needed. This solution is ideal for warehouses where floor space is limited and storage density is a priority.

A mixed fleet approach combines AGVs and forklifts to balance efficiency and flexibility. AGVs automate pallet transport, while operators handle exceptions and peak-demand activities.

The work behind the scenes

Mobile racking systems are pallet racks mounted on rails. Instead of a fixed aisle between each row, the rack blocks slide against each other, and you only open the aisle you need at that moment. This way, you use the space normally occupied by aisles for storage.

That makes mobile racking interesting, where floor space is at a premium. But it also changes how your warehouse operates: your equipment, routes, and planning must align with it. At Logisnext, we analyse your goods flow, space, and trucks, and determine whether a mobile racking unit suits your needs.

A mixed fleet approach can unlock the full potential of mobile racking systems by combining high-density storage with operational flexibility. AGVs can automate pallet movements to and from mobile racks, while manual reach truck operators manage exceptions, peak workloads, and time-critical tasks.

Through FleetController, warehouse managers can dynamically allocate areas for manual or automated operations, ensuring efficient material flow, maximising storage capacity, and maintaining productivity even during periods of high demand.

Suitable vehicles for mobile racking

Automated Reach Truck (ART)

The Automated Reach Truck (ART) is a multipurpose solution designed to lift up to 1600 kg in aisles with free space as narrow as 2.85 m and well-suited to large warehousing operations. With several models available, we can offer solutions tailored to customer needs. New and innovative software and sensor technologies considerably increase load-handling speed, and the 10 m lifting capacity and agile turning radius aim to fulfil the requirements of the most common warehouses and make ART a great companion for other workers and vehicles in the facility.Designed to meet the ISO 3691-4 safety standard requirements and in line with the rest of our offering, ART features several safety features, including safety scanners and residual load monitoring. Safety is complemented by fluency-enhancing accessories, such as the Proximity Detection System (PDS), which improves the coexistence of AGVs, lift trucks, and people in a shared warehouse environment. The unique safety installation creates a dynamic field in the moving direction, which allows the vehicle to turn faster. The residual load monitoring constantly monitors speed, load weight, height, and reach position.During load handling, collision detection ensures the operation is performed efficiently.ART is the winner of the Red Dot Design Award 2025.

  • Fast and reliable load handling
  • Agile turning radius
  • Safe operations with advanced safety scanner setup
  • Lifting capacity: 10 m
  • Can operate in 2.85 m-wide aisles
  • Precise load handling

Reach Truck RB16-25N3(H)(S)(X) Series

Reach Truck RB16-25N3(H)(S)(X) Series

A universal reach truck that works exactly how your operators would design a reach truck. It's a big claim. But with the control choices, the adjustability and ergonomics, the performance, the high visibility, the exceptional safety features and more as standard, plus a wide range of optional enhancements, we think you'll see it's a claim we don't make lightly. With lift heights of up to 12 metres, you'll always have a clear view on the load thanks to our MaxVision masts. It maximises visibility, while remaining exceptionally stable. This is a series that prides itself on going that extra step and always in the most efficient way possible. And while it houses a smart brain, its exterior is tough and highly robust, making it ideal for incredibly intensive operations. Combine that with legendary reliability and low total cost of operation and you'll see why we think so highly of it.

Making the most of your vertical space

Optimise floor space

In a conventional racking plan, a large part of your floor space is occupied by aisles. Every rack row requires one, even if no one drives there for most of the day.

With mobile racking, the rows are placed right next to each other, leaving you with only one or two working aisles. The savings, therefore, do not lie in higher racking or different pallets, but in the space you previously needed to access them.

What this specifically yields depends on your current layout, your aisle width, and the height at which you store. That is why we calculate it on a case-by-case basis rather than using a fixed percentage.

When to choose mobile racking?

Mobile racking systems are most effective when storage capacity outweighs the need for rapid access to every individual pallet.

  • Your floor is full and expanding or moving is not an option.
  • You store a lot at a low to medium turnover rate.
  • You work in a cold or freezer warehouse, where every refrigerated cubic meter costs money.
  • You have many items with a limited number of pallets per item.
  • You want to store buffer or seasonal stock compactly.
  • You have a level floor with sufficient load-bearing capacity.

How does automation fit?

When combined with automation, mobile racking becomes even more efficient. AGVs can automatically transport pallets to and from storage locations, while manual operators focus on exceptions, peak workloads, and value-adding activities.

FleetController coordinates the movement of both automated and manual trucks, enabling dynamic area allocation, optimised traffic management, and continuous material flow.

This mixed fleet approach helps warehouses increase storage density, improve throughput, and maintain the flexibility needed to respond to changing operational requirements.

Consider your environment

Mobile racking systems stand on rails installed in or on the floor. This places demands on the condition of your warehouse. Therefore, it is important to analyse not only the processes but also your environment. Through a consultation, our team of experts can help you determine in advance:

  • The flatness and load-bearing capacity of the floor
  • The space at the ends to drive in and out
  • The position relative to loading docks and dispatch
  • The lighting, which you arrange differently for compact storage
  • The fire safety and sprinkler systems in compact storage
  • The space for future expansion of the block
